MAD Hatters Tea Party

A Mad Hatters Tea party was a huge success raising £1021. EDF Energy has agreed to match that giving £2042 to the MS Society. Carla Butler says “Thank you to all those that supported, donated and worked so hard on the day especially the acting crew who brought Alice and Wonderland to life. The MS Society does some great work helping people with multiple sclerosis and the money raised will continue to help improve the quality of life of those affected. "

Sylvia's Wedding

Sylvia's cynical friend deflates her with her world-weary comments, but against all the odds it seems that the two families will co-operate and the wedding looks set for success - until Fate intervenes.

"Mixed Doubles"

Our third production of the year Mixed Doubles went well. It consisted of a selection of short plays involving Duologues and Monologues. The concept for this production had many advantages which included the opportunity for a number of people to become involved and opportunity to have a go at Directing a ‘bite size’ play. Great fun had by all and pictures will soon be available.

Another production under our belt, "Anyone for Breakfast" which I can only describe as the three ‘F’s, no not what you thought “Fast Furious and Funny”. All credit must go to the Actors who really deserve our praise for a keeping the standards of the group up and giving such magnificent performances throughout...Tony!

'Allo 'Allo, word from the chair...

Well we did it, another great seasonal production and I would like to thank everyone involved in ‘Allo ‘Allo, for making it another big success story. Not only was it a fabulous production, with praise still ‘ringing in our ears’ from those who saw it, and with the figures coming out from our hard pressed Treasurer Garry, confirming it was a ‘record breaker’ in more ways than one. Ticket sales, raffle, refreshments you name it were all up. So once again thank you so much for all your tremendous efforts.

11th-19th January 2008 production

Based on the hugely popular TV comedy series, the stage version of ‘Allo ‘Allo follows the adventures of René, the hapless café owner in war-torn occupied France, as he and his wife, Edith, struggle to keep for themselves a priceless portrait stolen by the Nazis and kept in a sausage in their cellar. René is hiding two British airmen and is endeavouring, with the help of the Resistance, to repatriate them. However, communications with London through a wireless disguised as a cockatoo add to the many embarrassments he endures in the company of his patrons. Matters come to a head with the news that the Fuhrer is to visit the town and the café becomes filled with tricksters intending to impersonate Hitler before the event. René will need all the wit he can muster to save his café and his life . . . . . !

NODA awarded MAD with an "An Accolade of Excellence" for "Hercules, the panto!" that was performed in January. Judged to be the best amateur panto in the South East area!

Last Monday, I enjoyed an evening of quality local entertainment at Meeching Hall, Newhaven, watching Hercules - The Panto.
It made a refreshing change from a traditional pantomime story and the level of audience participation certainly gave it an old-fashioned performance feeling, with young and old alike singing and heckling. A lot of effort goes into producing amateur dramas and the work done by the Meeching Amateur Dramatic group (MAD) deserves the support of locals.

From the effortless performance of Laura Gardner, playing Hercules, you would never have guessed she had taken on the role just a week previously (The Argus, January 9).
Garry Fowler's comedy interpretation of Narcissus was worth the ticket price alone and would have turned even Julian Clary's head. As an Elvis fan, I was delighted to see Scott Virgo appear as "The King" - with a beautiful white, sequinned jumpsuit, styled on Elvis's Vegas years - although he put so much effort into his hip-grinding and rocking, he forgot to sing into the microphone on several occasions. The pensioners in front of me squealed like teenagers as he took them back to their rock 'n' roll youth.

My children loved the glow-inthe- dark, luminous puppets and the nine-foot cyclops must have been a labour of love, and taken dozens of hours to build. The children starring in the performance were very professional and obviously enjoyed themselves.
